Global Search

Global Search is a platform-wide navigation tool that allows you to find and access any part of Astral. It indexes available pages and features, filtering results based on your permissions.

Key features

Keyboard shortcut

Activate the search bar from anywhere in the application by pressing Ctrl / Cmd + K. This focus-on-demand shortcut allows for a seamless, mouse-free navigation experience.

The Astral Manual documentation site also supports the Ctrl / Cmd + K shortcut for quick navigation within this manual.

Real-time results

Results appear as you type. The search engine is optimized for speed, providing immediate feedback and reducing the time spent navigating through menus.

Smart filtering

The Global Search is designed to be comprehensive and clutter-free:

  • Keyword support: Searches through page titles and predefined keywords (e.g., searching for "EMDR" will lead you to the "Bilateral Stimulation" tool).
  • Static pages only: To maintain privacy and clarity, the search focus is on platform navigation and tools. It explicitly excludes dynamic content like specific patient records or individual task details.

Permission-aware

Search results are automatically filtered based on your current user permissions. You will only see results for pages and features that you are authorized to access.

Quick navigation

Pressing Enter while the search bar is focused will automatically navigate you to the first result in the list, making frequent transitions faster.

Usage guide

  1. Click on the search bar in the top navigation header.
  2. OR use the global shortcut Ctrl / Cmd + K.

Searching and selecting

  • Type your query in the input field.
  • Browse the list of results that appear below the search bar.
  • Each result displays a Title and a brief Description (which expands on hover) to provide context.
  • Click on a result or press Enter to navigate to that page.
  • Click the clear (X) icon on the right side of the search bar.
  • OR press the Esc key to clear the input and close the results menu.

FAQs

• Can I search for patients? No. Global Search is for platform navigation only. To find patients, use the Patients dashboard.

• Does it work from all pages? Yes. The search bar is part of the global navigation header and the Ctrl / Cmd + K shortcut is active everywhere in the application.
