Breathing Exercises

The Breathing Exercises tool is an interactive visual aid designed to facilitate various breathing techniques during therapy. It allows therapists to guide patients through standard breathing patterns or custom timings, ensuring a synchronized and supportive experience either in-person or remotely.

What you can do

  • Create synchronized real-time breathing sessions.
  • Choose from preset patterns: Box Breathing, 4-7-8 Breathing, and Resonance Breathing.
  • Configure Custom Patterns with specific timings for inhale, exhale, and holds.
  • Control stimulus parameters (color, size) in real-time.
  • Share a secure link with patients for guided sessions.
  • Provide a Standalone Self-Practice link for patients to practice independently.

Getting Started

To use the tool, navigate to Features > Tools > Breathing Exercises.

Creating a Session

  1. Permanent Link:
    • Checked: The session link remains valid indefinitely. Ideal for ongoing practice.
    • Unchecked: The session is temporary and expires after 24 hours of inactivity.
  2. Click Generate Link.

Once the session is created, you will see the Therapist Control Panel.

Therapist Control Panel

The control panel allows you to manage the breathing exercise and session synchronization.

Session Controls

  • Start: Begins the breathing animation.
  • Pause: Temporarily stops the animation.
  • Resume: Continues the animation from where it was paused.
  • Stop: Ends the exercise and resets the stimulus.
  • Session Timer: Tracks the duration of the active breathing exercise.

Breathing Settings

Adjust these settings at any time; changes are synchronized instantly to the patient's view:

  • Breathing Pattern: Choose from common techniques or create your own:
    • Box Breathing: 5s inhale, 5s hold, 5s exhale, 5s hold.
    • 4-7-8 Breathing: 4s inhale, 7s hold, 8s exhale.
    • Resonance Breathing: 5s inhale, 5s exhale.
    • Custom Pattern: Define your own timings for each phase (Inhale, Hold after Inhale, Exhale, Hold after Exhale).
  • Stimulus Color: Select a color that helps the patient focus.
  • Size: Adjust the size of the breathing stimulus.

Patient Access

The Breathing tool provides two ways for patients to access the exercises.

Guided Patient View

This view is for real-time, therapist-led sessions. The patient sees the stimulus exactly as you control it.

  1. In the Therapist Control Panel, locate the Client Access Link section.
  2. Click Copy Link and share it with your patient.
  3. The patient will see your real-time adjustments as you guide them through the exercise.

Standalone Self-Practice Tool

For patients who wish to practice independently between sessions, a standalone version of the tool is available.

  1. In the Therapist Control Panel, locate the Standalone Self-Practice tool section.
  2. Share the Public access link with your patient.
  3. This link allows patients to use the tool on their own, with full control over the breathing patterns and settings, without requiring a therapist to be present or a backend session to be active.

Session Management

Similar to other tools, the Breathing tool allows you to manage your session history.

  • Permanent Links: Use these for long-term therapeutic goals.
  • Temporary Sessions: Perfect for one-off exercises.
